Like other post-secondary students, apprentices are responsible for
covering a portion of the costs of their technical training. Costs vary
from institution to institution. When researching technical training
options, you should look into both tuition, and other costs such as
books and service fees that you may be responsible for.
Apprentices attending technical training may
qualify, depending upon their individual circumstances, for several
types of financial assistance:
- Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)
Effective
January 1, 2007, apprentices completing their first or second level of
a Red Seal apprenticeship program are eligible for a $1,000 Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG). Please note that only those apprentices demonstrating progression on or after January 1, 2007 will be considered eligible.
Information and forms are available at
www.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/goc/apprenticeship.shtml.

credits for employers and employees who are engaged in apprenticeship
programs administered through the Industry Training Authority (ITA).
There are three main elements to the training tax credits:
- basic credits for non-Red Seal training programs;
- completion credits for both Red Seal and non-Red Seal training programs; and
- enhanced credits for First Nations individuals and persons with disabilities.
