If you have previous experience and / or training in a trade or occupation, you may be eligible to become certified in a shorter period of time than if you were new to the field. The ITA offers an assessment service that determines whether an individual is qualified to challenge the certification exam for their trade, or to receive Application for Sign-Off Authority (formerly known as Equivalency Status Application) that enables them to supervise the training of other apprentices in their field.
In order to qualify to challenge a BC Certificate of Qualification or Inter-Provincial Examination, or to qualify for Application for Sign-Off Authority (formerly known as Equivalency Status Application) , you will need to have your work experience assessed to ensure you meet the requirements for the trade you are applying for.
Individual, trade specific application packages have been developed to clearly identify the information required from applicants seeking to challenge an examination or qualify for equivalency. In addition, a service level standard has been established enabling applications to be processed within 60 days of receipt of a complete application.
